Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Dennis, founder of Maxim magazine, is one misunderstood mogul. He intended his previous book, How to Get Rich, to be ironic. Readers found it "inspirational," and he's back in the ring to make his point. Like the first book, this is another tongue-in-cheek "anti-self help manual, written to dissuade the majority of readers from making the attempt to acquire real wealth." He presents short meditations on motivation, rules of management, and conquering mental impediments. His wit is dry, and his advice ranges from thought provoking ("If you cannot treat your quest to get rich as a game—a silly game with serious rules—you will never be rich") to, more frequently, exceedingly silly ("You are a wild pig rooting for truffles. You are a weasel about to rip the throat out of a rabbit. You are an entrepreneur.")—but the crabby tone becomes grating. And since some of the content was repurposed from the original book, this collection, for all its entertainment value, ends up feeling slim and unfulfilling. Maybe the third time really will be the charm. (Apr.)

If you don't have the first book. This is great. If you already - it's almost 90% EXACTLY the same! I have no idea why Felix would put this out and mislead everyone. I'm confused. If you have the first book - look at the TOC. It's the same book as the first - save your money. Fortunately I got a refund on my kindle.

Americans know Felix Dennis as the publisher of the famed Maxim magazine. Brits know Dennis as the successful entrepreneur and media mogul behind a host of publications at his Dennis Media outpost. As the author of last year's best seller "How to be Rich," readers the world over know Dennis as a man who knows the path to financial success through the tried and true lessons of the school of hard knocks.

Such is the case with his latest volume, "The Narrow Road." In it, Dennis, much like the professor he resembles, gives a curriculum of lessons designed to educate the reader as to exactly what works and what doesn't in the "getting of money." Unlike a professor, Dennis's knowledge and examples are gleaned from actually having to raise money in the dod-eart-dog realities of the real world.

Geared towards startups, but with many lessons applicable to all small business, the author explains in a series of very short chapters, his well-hewn philosophies as to what is important and what is not in terms that are at times, shockingly unvarnished and straight to the point. Dennis suffers no fools when he talks about overarching concepts like equity dilution, and debt to revenue ratios, while also offering abundant pronouncements on the psychology of being successful (i.e. dealing with fear, the need for arrogance, handling management, etc.)

The narrow road Dennis refers to is, of course, the road to success and while Dennis has had it with those who pontificate without the benefit of experience, he is quick to offer advise based on the bruises he has presumably accumulated in the workplace himself.

This book was referred to me by a friend. It's an easy to read, intelligent book, and an extra bonus was being able to buy a good used copy.

How To Get Rich was one of the best books on business and entrepreneurship I have read. This provided nothing more. I guess it was a try to milk a winner. Buy the first book and forget about this one.

Like my title says. The Narrow Road is much better than How to get rich, Felix Dennis' first book. This book is wise and concise. So good I read it three times. I talked about it with many people. Interested in being your own boss? This book is for you.

This book is packed full of information. But most importantly it is very short and to the point! It can be read in a few hours! To those complaining that this book is a rehash of how to get rich...it says so in the front of the book and the author has stated many times that this is a more compact version of that book!

This is hands down the best book on building wealth I have found.

I've been through 50+ books ranging from wealth building, business, and biographies all the way to nebulous "self-help" tomes.

If you really want to make serious money. If you're actually willing to quit your day job and DO SOMETHING with your life. If you are done reading from authors who have never actually started a business. Then this book is for you.

If you enjoy your "good paying job with benefits" you might want to stick with something a bit more tame and less action-oriented.

If you're done screwing around and are currently starting your business (not "thinking about it") then BUY THIS BOOK NOW!

If you are a budding entrepreneur, or even a seasoned one you should read this book, perhaps more than once.
